Denmark: Academic Choir Aarhus The Academic Choir Aarhus will represent Denmark at Eurovision Choir of the Year 2017. The Academic Choir Aarhus is a mixed voice a cappella choir of around 30 experienced singers aged between 20-35. It was founded in 1985 and is currently led by Ole Faurschou. All members of the choir are connected to the musical life of the University of Aarhus or The Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus. The choir’s repertoire consists mainly of new Danish and Nordic choral music. It also includes a wide variety of other genres ranging from the polyphonic music of the Renaissance to the intense and emotional Romantic period and to novel pieces by contemporary composers. One of the leading classical choirs in Denmark, the Academic Choir Aarhus has received much recognition. It has produced several critically acclaimed albums and performed oratorios and masses at home and abroad, recently in collaboration with the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra. The choir has participated in competitions around the world and won first place at the 6th Musica Sacra a Roma, International Choir Festival & Competition in July, 2015. About Ole Faurschou Ole Faurschou was born in 1969 and graduated from the University for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Austria where he studied orchestral conduction. He made his debut as choir conductor in 2003 at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. Ole has conducted for several choirs and orchestras across Denmark as well as abroad. In 2006, Ole won the prize of ‘Best Conductor’ at the 8th China International Chorus Festival in Beijing. In addition to his conducting, he has also written several articles of music and music education and continues to provide guest lectures both in Denmark and internationally.
