Meet the hosts of Eurovision Choir of the Year

Eurovision Choir of the Year 2017 will be hosted by Eric Whitacre and Eva Johansone.

22 July 2017 sees the launch of a brand new international TV competition featuring Europe’s best amateur choirs who will travel to Riga and compete for the title Eurovision Choir of the Year. The show will be hosted by Grammy-winning composer and conductor Eric Whitacre and Latvian Television’s culture presenter Eva Johansone.

About Eric Whitacre

Grammy-winning composer and conductor Eric Whitacre is one of the most popular musicians of our time. His concert music has been performed throughout the world by millions of amateur and professional musicians alike, while his ground-breaking Virtual Choirs have united singers from over 110 different countries.

A graduate of the prestigious Juilliard School of Music, Eric was recently appointed Artist in Residence with the Los Angeles Master Chorale having completed a five-year term as Composer in Residence at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge University, UK.

About Eva Johansone

Eva Johansone is a Latvian Television journalist who presents culture, music and arts news and often hosts live broadcasts of major cultural events in Latvia. In addition to being a news anchor, Eva also presents a weekly television show called Snapshot. She played a pivotal role in Riga’s European Capital of Culture coverage.

Prior to becoming a journalist Eva studied Philosophy at the University of Latvia. Eva has been the President of the National Youth Council of Latvia (2007 – 2009) and has worked as a volunteer in Indonesia and studied in the USA.

Eva sings and has played the violin since childhood and lists music is one of the most inspiring things in the world for her. She speaks five languages; Latvian, English, German, Russian and Indonesian and also makes documentaries, loves people and hearing their stories.
